"Möbius sums".

Sums involving the Möbius function are ubiquitous in number theory. Some of these sums are closely connected with the distribution of the primes. We outline an approach to Möbius sums initiated by Redheffer. The larger part of the lecture will be devoted to a different approach that relies on a mixture of number theory, linear algebra and geometry. This is connected to the Redheffer approach through the so-called Redheffer matrix.
