Illuminating black holes with curvature invariants

In general, writing down a quasi-local description of the event horizon for a black hole solution in General Relativity can be difficult or impossible to do. In special cases, such as for stationary black holes, the horizon can be found as a quasi-local surface defined by the vanishing of an invariant. In this talk, we will introduce the necessary concepts to discuss stationary black hole solutions and explore possible choice of invariants that could be applicable for more general black hole solutions.
