“The Cauchy problem for the two-component Hunter-Saxton system”.

The Hunter-Saxton equation has many nice properties like a bi-Hamiltonian structure, infinitely many conserved quantities, soliton-like solutions and so on. However, solutions experience wave breaking in finite time so global solutions exist only in the weak sense. We will see how one can construct different classes of global weak solutions, and discuss continuous dependence on initial data.
